FAQs

What is counselling?

Counselling is a safe space to talk and explore your feelings with support.

How long will it take for me to feel better?
Is it confidential?
How many sessions will I need?
What type of counselling do you offer?

I offer a confidential service to my clients but it is important to note that there are some legal and safeguarding exceptions to this which will be discussed at the start of your sessions.

To protect your information I am a member of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), you can find more details about I store and use your data, along with your rights in my privacy policy

Building a trusted relationship with your counsellor is an important part of the process, so for this reason it is recommended that you attend weekly for at least the first four sessions where possible. After this we can discuss a frequency that fits your circumstances best including adhoc top-up sessions when needed.

Every person comes to counselling with their own unique set of circumstances and concerns. You may be encountering feelings or experiences that you have not felt for a long time, so it is not uncommon for things to feel worse before you are able to find a way forward. Be reassured that you can go at your own pace and won't be forced into talking about anything until you are ready to do so.

The number of sessions is entirely up to the individual. Some clients prefer to work within a specified time whilst others work longer term. You are not required to commit to a particular number of sessions.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists. This means that I have been trained to their set standards and work to their framework of ethics and values which is available to view here. I undergo regular clinical supervision from another qualified and BACP registered counsellor to ensure that I continue to work ethically and competently.
